Anthea Hamilton x Loewe collaboration at Tate Britain

Turner prize winning artist Anthea Hamilton has transformed Tate Britain with her latest instillation which, as well as 7,00 white floor tiles, includes seven costumes designed in collaboration with Loewe by Creative Director Jonathan Anderson.  The show, called The Squash, is the latest annual Tate Britain Commission which asks contemporary British artists to create new work in response to the building’s grand space.  Anthea Hamilton has transformed the heart of Tate Britain into an elaborate stage in which she has placed a solo performer in a squash-like costume at the heart of the Duveen.  Every day for six months, a performer will select a costume from a rack of seven created by Loewe and explore the space.  Each element of this bold and immersive installation is partially informed by Hamilton’s interest in found photographs, where the original source has been lost, but here, Hamilton re-purposes them, inviting the performer to explore their own interpretation of the image. Performers select their costume of choice, depending on the image and their chosen interpretation.  Gallery director Alex Farquharson said: “Anthea Hamilton has made a unique contribution to British and international art with her visually playful works that both provoke and delight. This compelling commission demonstrates her ability to seamlessly weave together captivating images and narratives, creating rich new environments in which to encounter works of art.”

Loewe x Duane Michals for AW18 Men’s Collection

Loewe Creative Director Jonathan Anderson has teamed  up with celebrated American Artist Photographer Duane Michals to produce a black and white photo narrative series to go along side Loewe’s static exhibition of AW18 products in their Parisian showroom.  Michals photographed the British actor Josh O’Conner as a failed magician, performing in the Teatro Reina Victoria in Madrid.  “He had carte blanche,” Anderson said. “He came to Madrid and shot these tableaux in an old theater. He painted the backdrops and made the props.” The magician makes the model Erik Frey appear in a new Loewe outfit with each new trick performed.  Over a career of 55 years Michal’s is constantly reinventing himself and has produced work from staged photographs to multi-media works with painted and manipulated photographs, as well as constructing elaborate fictional narratives.  As well as the exhibition the images will alsobe published as a limited edition volume designed by M/M Paris.

Loewe team up with Soulwax & Michel Gaubert on Tropical Ibiza Record

After Loewe’s pop up boutique in Ibiza, Jonathan Anderson has teamed up with Dj duo Soulwax & legendary fashion music curator Michel Gaubert to produce an Ibiza soaked summer record called ‘Close to Paradise’.  Written and produced by Soulwax and curated by Gaubert, the balearic track involves four stages narrated by four local characters, providing different perspectives on the island’s magnetism.  The track is part of Loewe’s creative nod to Ibiza this summer, inspired by Jonathan’s many childhood visits to the island.  “Ibiza is one of those places you can let go and experiment with something you’re not,” says Anderson, with gleeful anticipation. “You feel anything is possible. That’s how I feel about Loewe. There are no boundaries. And there aren’t many brands where you could do this.”  Link below:
